Philly Fighters

I should start by saying I am all for prison reform. But if I had to point to an example of positive reform, perhaps it has been demonstrated through boxing programs, as demonstrated in the Pennsylvania system, if only for the tremendous output of world-class fighters. To understand this I point to the names, Bernard Hopkins, Dwight Muhammed Qawi, and Amir Mansour, who along with ranking amonst the best Philly storied history of boxing, also share the same experience of former incarciration. Interestingly, all of these men are Islamic reverts, who have used embraced the undeniably healthy part of the faith which promote abstinence from vices such as alcohol, drugs and its obvious consequences, potentially underscoring the positive impact of faith as a catalyst for individuals attempting to break what is often a major factor within a generational struggle.
